"Please wait while windows updates..."

I recently got a new system, and re-installed studio. It was working fine,
but now whenever I start it I get a prompt that says:

"Please wait while windows configures visual studio .net - english."

If I wait until it completes, which takes a minute or two, all is well and
I can cancel the process too without incident. However, it's really
annoying. The only thing I can think of is that I installed office a day or
two ago, but I can't remember if it started doing this immediately
afterwards or not.

Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

It's related to the order certain products were installed I seem to recall.
If you search Google, probably for that exact phrase you should see messages
from lots of people and the solution was posted there too.

Hi,

Thanks for posting.

I agree with Tom. This issue may be caused by Office. Let's try the
followings to resolve it:

1. If you are using Office XP, please install the service pack at the
following site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=D4D8A9A4-31FC-480B-
9CD9-ADCCB6997CE3&displaylang=EN

2. Or, we may rename the file "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Office10\MSO.DLL" and let VS.Net to finish the repair process.

I hope this helps.

Renaming the DLL did it... Studio prompted me again for the disks during
startup, and it appears to have repaired itself.

FYI this was studio 2000.

Thanks a million!
