A buddy of mine has been buying different pieces and parts that he
finds on sale for a upgraded system. He brought them all to me for
assembly and to install XP Pro, his programs, his games, etc.

The problem comes with a device listed as a raid controller, it's
looking to install the 'Promise Sata Console SCSI Processor', but of
course it's not finding a driver for it. Looking to Asus for the
answer I get this...

"Windows XP has that driver in its driver database, but you have to
install it manually. In Device Manager, select update driver to that
SCSI processor device. Let Windows show all the hardware categories
list and select "SCSI and RAID Controller". In the following window,
choose "Promise Technologies" at left and choose "Promise SATA console
SCSI processor device" from right. That is the driver you need."

....except that it's not in the drivers database with XP and the only
thing that shows, when doing the above, is a Promise IDE controller,
that's it.

I'd already been to Promise's website and in their download section
the following is listed...

" <snipped>
Promise does not offer support on any of the following:
• Controllers sold under another vendors' name
• Systems such as those from Dell, Gateway, Micron, NEC, Fujitsu or
others that may include a Promise controller
• Motherboards which have an embedded Promise controller

If you have purchased any of the products listed above, please
contact the vendor from whom you purchased the product for technical
support. "

....as you can plainly see, this sends it back to Asus.

I've even been to MS website. They have away to download drivers
using the autoupdate freature. Following the instructions listed
there, I came to the list of companys to choose from and Promise
Technologies isn't amoung them. Surprise.

I'm at a loss. There's got to be away to either get them from
Microsofts website or better yet, off the installation disk.

Please help me resolve this issue so I can give my bud his computer,
fully functional and properly installed.

Many thanks.

As everything you have seen has indicated, you get the drivers either from
the motherboard manufacturer (if it is built into the M/B) or from the
device manufacturer (if it is an add-in card).

Doesn't sound so difficult to me!

After you get them do you know how to apply them? Better read the manual for
the M/B or the device.

Do a Google search using the part number of the card and the word
'driver'. There are several sites out there that offer drivers that the
manufacturers won't admit to. If you can't tell which is the part number
then just try every number printed on the card or even on the chips.

If this is the controller that the boot drive is attached to then you may
have to do the thing where you press F6 during the first part of the
Windows installation to get the driver loaded properly. But to do this
you have to have the driver on a floppy already.

If you just can't find a driver then your friend has learned a valuable
lesson. "Don't buy any hardware without the accompanying drivers."

Actually it's the promise controller built into the motherboard..
...Asus A8V Deluxe...

I'll try your suggestion and see if it'll pan out.

Thank you for your input sir.

I've read the manual, been to the website. It's a built in controller
on his Asus motherboard.

Thanks for your input anyways.

On MY Asus M/B I have to set a jumper to be able to use a RAID
configuration. Check the manual to see what jumpers YOU may have to set!
