well if it's telling you that
a file can't be found, then
maybe you have already uninstalled
whatever program it is...

if you need space go to
start, then run then type cleanmgr
and run it..

The simplest way to tidy up (although it may seem strange) would be to
reinstall the software (re-run its installer) and when it's fully installed
immediately remove it via

Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs

next. Can anyone help me?

p.s. - I have very little computer knowledge and would be grateful for
step-by-step advice.

You should have added to the original thread - that way we could see what
had already been tried.
Looking over this post (and translating it somewhat) I see you have a file
that keeps saying it is gone...
Looking into what that file is, I see that as a GOOD thing.

"File ctor.dll is a part of adware Hotbar, which is a toolbar program with
context-sensitive link/search buttons to Interne Explorer. HotBar monitors
every web site you visit and contacts to its controlling servers to display
targeted advertising."

So more than likely you did a cleanup of your system with some
adware/spyware cleanup tools and you see an entry in your add-remove
programs control panel for something and you are trying to use that to
remove the software. However - since it was part of spyware/adware and was
already cleaned up - the file it wants is gone already. While I could walk
you through how to clean up your Add/Remove programs list - it may be better
for you to just ignore it in this case.

If I have assumed anything incorrectly - please correct me.

Not strictly true - ctor.dll is more general than that. Its function is to
launch uninstallers (setup.exe files) located in subfolders of

C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (hidden folder)

[ But I can see where you got your information from - presumably from here
http://www.spyany.com/files/ctor_dll.html ]

I had a similar problem in one of my machines, Add/Remove programs
just popped up an error message. I tried or a while to track down the
problem but then got a copy of jv16 Power Tools from
http://www.macecraft.com/

jv16 has its own uninstall, you select what you want to remove, and
it'll clean up the registry as well. By the time it's through it'll
have cleaned out so much junk you probably won't be short of space for
a while.

Thanks all, software is still installed because mostly they are games and we
can still play them, and they are still taking up space, they just will not
uninstall, have run several disk clean ups.NewScience informed us that we
could be missing the 0701 folder could this be the problem and how do we
resolve this,Would try and reinstall and uninstall the software but am afrais
that this will take up even more space if they still refuse to budge please
correct me if im wrong, thanks again Beth
