Please Help!

I keep getting these messages in the status bar saying "1
item remaining" or "done" on my home page but it keeps
running and some sites I can't call up at all. I've
deleted all my cookies and temporary internet files and
did a virus scan. Dell is no help and since my XP came
with my computer I don't qualify for help from Microsoft.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
