Please Help

Yesterday i was on my computer and it seemed slow and today i turned it on
and a black screen comes up and says " Operating System Not Found" Can
someone please tell me what happened and how to fix it? I have windows xp
and i have no recovery disk, it was built in on the pc. I appreciate any

I think you need to find a 'competent' repair person

Often there is a recovery partition on your pc, how you access this varies
from maker to maker. Often there are the facilities to create the recovery
disks
However you are possibly past that point

If you bought a new computer with Windows XP preinstalled, the setup CD
should have been included. Or is it a second-hand machine? If so, how old?
(The hard disk may be failing).

Anyway, try to get hold of a Windows XP setup CD. It has three options:
Recovery Console, Repair Installation, and Normal Installation.

Try the Recovery Console. It should scan your hard drive and detect Windows
installations, and ask you which one you want to examine. It may ask for
your administrator password. Then it should give you a C: prompt. Get a
directory (dir) and if it looks okay (no garbled text) and reports the free
space, things are probably okay.

It's very possible that your Hard Drive has died. If you have vital
information stored on it there are professionals who may be able to recover
your data (expensive though).
