Hi All,

I am having a problem that I do not seem to be able to solve nor find anyone
who can give me an answer.

Many times while trying, I am unable to open IE6. I finally opened it and
immediately downloaded Netscape7, believing that I just could not deal with
having to reboot each time I wish to use my browser. I did the same using
Opera. Same thing with both Netscape and Opera, they won't open up
completely, they all show that they are trying to pull a page but eventually
I get the dreaded message that it cannot find it.

I reboot, they all open once (sometimes). If I close them, then thats it
for opening again, I have to reboot the machine. My OS is Windows XP Home.

I have disabled my ZoneAlarm, disabled my Norton's, all to no avail.

Can anyone help? I have tried to go to the IE newsgroup and receive no
response. What is wrong?

Thank you in advance to anyone that might be able to shed some light on this
problem.

Tom, I understand that you are frustrated, but it's very hard to tell
you exactly what the problem is without 1) seeing your machine; 2)
knowing how you connect to the Internet; 3) knowing what ISP you use.
However, since you are having trouble with different browsers, you know
it is not an IE-exclusive issue. Every call I've been on lately that is
about problems with Internet connectivity has been because of spyware
infestation and/or virus infection. Now, you say you have NAV and I
assume that it is a current version (later than 2002) and you've kept
the definitions updated. If this isn't true, then you have no assurance
that your computer is virus-free. If you are sure your computer is
virus-free, try scanning for spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy
(www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. These
programs are free, and it is a good idea to use both because they
complement each other. Be sure to update them before using, and it is a
good idea to run them in Safe Mode.

When you are sure you computer is clean, if you are still having
problems, repost and include as much information about your system, the
problem, your Internet details, and what you've already done as
possible.

Hi Kelly,

Did those, thanks. One common problem that they found, and a virus scan as
well, is a folder/file called new.net which they can neither delete,
quarantine, nor otherwise get rid of. Got rid of a bunch of stuff though.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi,

I will try your every suggestion. I appreciate the help. Just for the
record, I am using a Dell Dimension 2100, Windows XP Home, DSL, and my ISP
is tidewater.net

Thanks for your valued assistance,

Tom
