please help

my friend has win xp. it will not load for her. a black
screen comes up and say nt something or other files are
compressed, if someone can help i would sure appreciate
it. she cannot get online to check. she cant do anythign
with her puter, it sits worthless

this happened to me once. The hard drive with old os is
compressed and xp will not work untill you boot up on old
os and uncompress hard drive then try reload xp or format
hard drive and start clean. xp will will not take on a
compressed hd unless you make a new partition but you will
not be able to delete the old os make sure you have enough
disk space for xp
