thats interesting...
The only other place that is left is the registry.
maybe those hives are out of whack.
but i'll ponder on it.

in the interim, have you checked out
the error and performance logs?
they are found in the admin tools.
also, hve you tried "repair" with the cd yet?
you can launch the cd setup via the file manager if you want.
If not you might be spending alot of time on this issue, the worst that can
happen
is that it won't repair and get stuck and identify the driver then revert
everything back.

in the registry under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
is where these drivers are controlled from. But this is the registry and the
keys are segregated by software and not by precedence or activity.
A very good program called autoruns from sysinternals.com disects the
complex processes used by windows and
organizes them by type and with tabs.
If you can run it via normal mode, maybe safemode, you will find drivers,
dlls, etc.. that are being executed for booting, etc...
If you find something wrong, you can disable that process, then double click
on the name and the registry will
pop up and open the key and disable it, or enable if you choose. And its
done automatically by autoruns.
There under the drivers tab you would likely find the fastfat.sys plus the
others that are registered to be used by your system.

Its pretty good program, but i am not sure if it will give you an accurate
reading under safemode, since most drivers are not installed under
safemode... but worth a try if you can.

Other than this, I have no other options other than repair windows or
restore the registry from a prior state via recovery console....

i found something that could help with the issue, if it is still
unresolved..
don't know the exact processes, but maybe you can basically described them
to me
thats if you try this method out...

Ben...

Sorry for the delay, but here is where I am...

I have pulled/reinstalled the cards.. and have, after a lucky start,
installed 17 XP updates, and uninstalled/re-installed the Internet Keyboard
and EZ EV...

I cannot put my finger on it, but all seems to be working fine- it boots/
shuts down.. I have also check to be sure I have restore set, and a restore
point...

So, keep you fingers crossed!

Thank you for all you help.. really!!

glad its working.....

there is a freeware that helps rebuild the restore calender. For whatever
reason, the calendar may not show all those dates with restores against
them. But this little freeware helps rebuild that calendar. Diffently, you
need to manually check that calender weekly. On occassion, I have suddenly
lost all my restore points myself. When I find it, Ill post the url for
you.

You should also consider using these "ERUnt" and NTRegOpt". Dont know what
there urls are rightnow but I use them regularly. I think you will feel a
bit more in control of your computers destiny with them....
