Ok, I put a floppy in and it has all of my files, one of them is Final
Draft screenplay, I open it, no problem, I go to save it on the hard
drive, instead I hit save for the disk and it starts saving, but for
some reason with this computer when I try and save things on disk it
takes forever, so I take the disk out before the save is complete

no big deal because i have the screenplay on a backup disk, but there
are other things on the disk that I would prefer to have, well the
problem is I put the original disk back in and it says disk is not
formatted would you like to format it now

other disks are working fine, what do i do, do i format it, will i
then lose everything on it, do i go to another computer from a friend
and try it, then save it to a cd rom, your help is greatly
appreciated

well if u format it u will lose your data. goto my computer and click on the
floppy contents and then right click on the document you want to save and
click "save as". now u can save it on your harddisk by choosing the right
place.

This might repair the damage to the file structure of you disk; you very
likely lost the file you were working on, but you may recover the other
files

1) Put the floppy disk in the drive
2) Right-click "My Computer"
3) Click on the "Open" option
4) Right-click on the Floppy Disk icon
5) Click on "Properties" option
6) Click on the "Tools" tab
7) The first option is "Error-checking" -- click on "Check Now"
8) In the "Check Disk Local Disk" box, click in each of the boxes so that
there is a check mark
9) Click the "Start" button

As you have learned
--- Never remove a disk during a read or write operation
--- Never work on a file located on a floppy -- copy the file to your
hard drive, open it, work on it, save changes to it, then close it. After
closing it, copy it back to the floppy for use as a backup.

thanks for the help, it seems it is lost, i did everything you said
and nothing happened after clicking start, and I can't select
individual files because they don't show up

thank god i had a backup, and yes from now on in don't use disks as
primary only backup, will just save files to hard drive and cd roms,
take care, if you think of anything else i would appreciate it

You are welcome. Sorry it didn't help
