I cannot seem to logo-on to admin or any acct on my home PC.

Please help me if you can. It is Windows 2000 Professional (I think SP4?)
and it is used standalone and not
networked with any other devices.

I moved 3 months ago and my PC was damaged and would no longer boot .
While it was being repaired (bad wireless card) I bought a new PC with XP
and I desperately need to xfer some files from my old PC.
My old PC is fixed and returned and now I cannot seem to log-on to my
administrator account (or any account) !!.

I only ever used the administrator account and I kept a list of 3
"revolving" passwords for use on my W2k Pro log-on screen.
I cannot get it to accept any of the 3 passwords and I am at a loss. To
make matters worse, I overtyped the user-name
and I need to know if it is User Name: administrator
What is the spelling and should it be all lower/uppercase or ?
Also ANY suggestions on finding the password or bypassing it for my home pc
would be GREAT!!!
The PC is an old emonster 550 PIII that I upgraded from W98 SE to W2k Pro
to teach myself SQL Server.
Thanks in advance from an old Big-Blue DBA with 25+ years on MF's,,,, Ken

See if you can get logged on by using Administrator as user but enter nothing for the password. If that doesn't work ask the people that fixed the machine if they ever logged into the operating system. If not then try to bring the harddrive with your files into your machine that works as an extra harddrive (not one you boot from) and transfer the files from there elsewhere.

Usernames are not case sensitive (passwords are though). "Administrator" is
the same as "administrator"

Chances are the shop you took it to may have reset the administrator
password. So as George suggested talk to them. Also there is a tool/app
out there that can reset passwords but I am at a loss to it's name at the
moment.....perhaps someone else here can shed some light.

Is the content of the "User name: " field
Administrator

?? with a capital A and lowercase letters following it?
It says that the field is caps sensitive.
Please let me know how it appears on another machine.. Thanks!!!

Thanks for your replies. The tech at the shop never logged on as admin. I
remembered when I installed W2kPro I set up a user
of default with a corresponding password. I have been able to get onto
my system using this logon.

About 2/3 of my system is now available to me. If anyone knows of the
tool's name or location or a way I can look up the admin on my system
please post a reply.
Thanks for straightening out the case usage on the user name for me.
.......Ken
