I have multiple DVD+RW discs with backup files on them. Up until now they
all have worked fine. Now when I pop a disc into the unit, and try to add a
file to it, a message comes up and says, "Disc is write protected." I am
using Roxio drag to disc 9. I would like to dump Roxio, but with all of my
backup discs created in Roxio, I don't know how I can do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Bob K.

Drag to Disk is a UDF packet writing tool which will treat the discs
as a large floppy. UDF packet writing has been proven to be
unreliable because the problems which yours is one of them.

If you have Roxio, look at the better software module of "backup."
This would be a complete backup system with disc spanning.

You may be SOL -- I suggest you post in the Roxio User Forums and ask
for help. (You're more likely to find help there than with Roxio's
yechh!-nical support.)

Packet writing (Roxio's Drag-to-Disk , Nero's InCD, and others) fell out
of favor years ago, because packet writing doesn't close the disc
properly. As a result, there is no assurance that you will be able to
read the disk on anything other than the original computer with the
original version of the software that wrote the disk. Even then, I
wouldn't bet the mortgage.

For something as critical as backup, if you really want to use optical
media, use a DVD+R or DVD-R and proper burning software (like Roxio's
Creator Classic.) For backing up, an external hard drive is most convenient.
