My learned friends,

I am in dire need of your assistance. After an Ad-aware scan and removal of
the “critical instances†found I have encountered two issues.

1. I cannot access Task manager. I receive an error message stating: Task
manager has been disabled by your administrator.

2. My RUN function (the one that should be on the left column after clicking
start.

Also, I cannot use system restore. After going to START/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM
TOOLS/SYSTEM RESTORE, it browsed and tried to locate it. It then gave the
prompt to fix the problem. I selected it. But now, when I go to system
restore in the way described, nothing happens.

As you can see, I need you.

Please advise

Yours,

Joe

My learned friends, please note that in the 2nd issue of my post it should
say: My RUN function (the one that should be on the left column after
clicking
start) has disappeared.

However, I did make the notepad document as you specified. I saved it to the
C drive but when I double clicked it I got the error message that: reisrty
editing has been disabled my you administrator.

What should be my next step. Also please explain to me what I am supposed to
do with that information I put above. Is it an instruction?

My learned friend TaurArian,

I followed the links you suggested. Thank you. I was able to fix the
disabled task manager. However, the Run function is still gone. Also, when I
restart my PC the problem returns, which means I again have no task manager
and have to apply the downloads again.

Learned friend PA Bear,

You are quite right in that I need to do more. I still have a few problems.

1. Although my RUN function is back. When I type in msconfig I am giventhe
error message that “windows cannot find msconfigâ€

2. When I used my internet browsers (AOL and Explorer) I seem to have the
Viva TermeX Virus.

3. I have no access to system restore.

Please advise.

YW, Joe, but I'd do more checking than simply one scan with AVG

My learned friends,

The problem is solved. Thank you all for your contributions. I followed
the
links provided my friend TaurArian after, removing the restrictions on
registry editing, I downloaded and ran AVG. during the scan , the windows
RUN function returned. My PC is now operating normally.

You have my gratitude.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool touse.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

My learned friends,

I am in dire need of your assistance. After an Ad-aware scan and
removal
of the "critical instances" found I have encountered two issues.

1. I cannot access Task manager. I receive an error message stating:
Task
manager has been disabled by your administrator.

2. My RUN function (the one that should be on the left column after
clicking start.

Also, I cannot use system restore. After going to
START/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS/SYSTEM RESTORE, it browsed and tried to
locate it. It then gave the prompt to fix the problem. I selectedit.
But
now, when I go to system restore in the way described, nothing
happens.

As you can see, I need you.

Please advise

Joe

Avast! may be no better than any other a/v software in that you can be
infected by new malware which Avast! definitions haven't identified yet.
But Avast! will ask if you want to run a boot-scan during its initial
install, and you can always schedule one. The boot-scan will look for
malware before the malware can take control of your computer and disable
your protection. So go to "Safe Mode with Networking", download and
install Avast! and schedule a boot-scan.

Once all infections are eliminated, also consider Spybot S&D which has
Teatimer. Teatimer alerts you when a registry entry is changed. That
can alert you to critical changes to the registry. Although the alerts
are somewhat cryptic, any change made immediately after opening an
email, an attachment, or visiting a web site is better than no warning
at all.

Run SFC /SCANNOW and it might restore msconfig.

Just my two cents worth..

See my previous reply and run a thorough check for hijackware, Joe.
