PLEASE HELP! - Media Player locks up XP when started

B

Bill - Denver

XP Home Edition
When I try to open Media player, it does not open;
gives "Media Player has problem, must shut down,"
message. Then it locks up the system. Can't even use [CTL]
[ALT][DEL]; can't close any open applications and must
turn the computer off and reboot.
Reinstalled XP and Media Player. Problem continues.
1. Is there any way to uninstall Media Player and
reinstall?
2. Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

Go to Start > Run and in the Run box copy, then paste, the following:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\setup_wm.exe"

Then hit the Enter key to reinstall Windows Media Player.

| Followed your suggestion. Got similar error message: "Media Installer had a problem, must shut down." Again,
when I click OK and the installer shuts down, everything is locked up. Can't even close IE or Notebook. Again
had to turn computer off and reboot. The same thing occurs when trying to open Media Player or reinstall.

| Any other suggestions??
