ok, completely messed things up. A couple of years back, I had
configured my laptop and loaded Linux on it, so that, at boot time, it
used to pop up a Window asking "Do you want to boot Linux or
Windows" and then, boot Linux or Windows, depending on the option
chosen. From what I remember, it had something to do with writing the
master boot record or something.

However, in my infinite wisdom, yesterday, when I was booted in XP,
through partitining magic software, I just 'deleted' the Linux
partitions. Now, when I boot the laptop, it just brings up the
following screen:

grub>

I know "grub>" has something to do with Linux, but now,
I cannot find a way to boot in Windows. I don't want Linux 'at all' on
my system. Just need XP to come back. What do I do. Please help.

aI donot know how you will login as Admin as you can not boot in it.

Anyhow, I give you a simple solution. Tell me if it works.
You need a Windows XP Bootable CD. Change the First Boot Device to CD-ROM
from BIOS Settings and then try Repairing your Windows. Be Careful! You must
repair your window, do not do a clean installation.

Let me know! If it works.

Ignore the post about repairing Windows, go here:

and look at the section on how to repair the MBR

you need to login to recovery console (which you are prompted for after
booting to cd and choosing the recovery option) before you can do anything.
then you use the option I listed to fix the master boot record

Oh boy, too late. It went from bad to worse. I did this:

Inserted 1 of 3 'Recovery CDs' that I was given when I bought the
laptop. The Recovery CD asked "This process will erase the entire date
from your hard disk" which was fine with me, so I said 'Continue'. Then
a screen popped up with the following:

Erasing all data from hard drive
Partitining the C: drive

The above message stayed on the screen for a good 2 minutes and then,
bam!! The Laptop switched off!! I tried this process 4 times, but
everytime, the laptop just gets auto switched off!!

Please please help me someone!!
