Please Help - I Forgot How To

I forgot how to create a line in a word document that will remain as you type
on it. I've figured out how to create a blank space underline that I can
type on, but the line continues to grow with the text and this isn't what I
use to be able to do. I've lost the hot tip that taught me how to do this
cool thing.

Does anyone know how to do this? I've searched google, MS windows, etc. and
can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

many, many thanks, Christine

You're in insert mode. Hit the insert key, and it will take you out. Now,
you can type on the line, and it will replace the line with the character you
type.

No, I thought I might get more replys in the general catagory. Maybe I'll
have to try there. Thanks so much

Ctrl/U turns on Underlining. It's a toggle so you can turn it off with
the same keys. And you can highlight text, then press Ctrl/U to
underline or remove underlines from text.

I guess I should have just said.... I want to create a line in my document
(so when I use it as a hard copy I can just fill in the information) that
always stays the same, but one that I can also type text into without
disturbing the line. Does that make sense? Example: ____________ not
this... Example: __would be here___

Thanks for trying to help ;~)

Right click on the toolbar and make sure the "Formatting" entry in the list
has a checkmark.

On that bar is a gadget for creating lines and once created you can click on
the line to adjust length etc.

Not sure how many variations you can get with toolbars but you should be
able to find that I think.

UP.S. There are specialized groups for the various parts of MS Office where
you may get help for other issues if you need them.

Note that this is not the general "general" category, but the *Windows XP*
general category (actually newsgroup, not "category" at all).

You might get a reply to a question about Word here if you're lucky, but
since Word is not part of Windows at all, such questions really don't belong
here at all, and some people won't answer them here even if they know the
answer . Word questions should be asked in a Word newsgroup.
