Please help. I cannot uninstall Synctoy. Each time I try to un-
install,
I am asked the location of a setup.exe file which seems to be in temp
directory..which has long been deleted.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

simply delete the folder
then run a registry
cleaner to remove
the orphan keys left
behind....

you can use this
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/cleanup.htm

or something like
Eusing free registry cleaner.

Tried several registry cleaners - still appears on my add/remove
programs list when I restart... cannot remove.. cannot install new
version...

thoughts?

not many.

but you might try to paste and engage this:

MsiExec.exe /I{B5688129-7595-4E5B-9990-CEF981A31264}

in the run command line.....

No luck :-(

"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"

killing me!

Worst part is the directory where is looking for the original .msi
file: It's in the temporary internet files... long gone!

What else could I do?

install it again, then uninstall.

not really.

if you can't install it
and you have removed
all the registry keys for the
synctoy then it does sound
like you in a pickle.

maybe you can undelete
the entire temp directory
with a freeware called recuva.

it's one of those programs
that can restore deleted files
that are still on the disk but
no longer seen in the recycle
bin.

maybe you can restore
the deleted files temporarily.

the files are:
custsat.dll
EULA_for_SyncToy.rtf
SqmManagedWrapper.DLL
SyncToy.exe
SyncToyEngine.DLL
synctoyhelp.chm
synctoyico.ico

maybe i can email them to you in
a zip file if you give me your email address.

I was going to suggest that, until I noticed that the OP had said
"cannot install new version". The installer is probably checking if it's
already installed, and finding the particular remnant it's looking for.

Hey Folks,

Ok - back from a work trip and still trying to figure this out on my
home box. Here's the deal:

-Registry cleaners, etc have been run
-Temp internet folder cannot be recovered.
-Uninstaller is looking for file setup[1].msi in that folder
-I've recreated the folder and copied (and renamed) the setup.msi file
from new dowload of synctoy
-When I try to uninstall (or install new version) it detects this
file, but is able to tell it's not the correct version.

Only conclusion I can come to is thus that I need the Setup.msi file
from previous version of synctoy. I *think* I'm looking for v1.2 -
does ANYBODY have any idea where I would find?

Does anybody have any ideas? Such a pain! How can such a small
Microsoft program be causing me such a problem!

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Folks,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried several undelete utils but
with no success.

I re-created the requested temp folder and copied (and renamed, it's
looking for setup[1].msi) the setup filed into it - still no luck for
install or uninstall it can tell it's a newer version.

Only thing I can think of now is to get ahold of previous (1.2?)
version of setup.msi and try to repeat.

Thoughts?

no idea why this is so hard.... such a small program.....

Thanks in advance guys,

Rich

If it's any consolation I've learned that there is a newer version of
SyncToy in the works, so perhaps you'll be able to install that, when it
arrives? I have absolutely no idea when this will be though.
