Ok, I've got 25 days left before I have to activate XP Home and I'm messing
around with some configurations now with the assumption that I will
reinstall everything if I screw anything up. Now is the time!
I wanted to find a way to have certain business applications only available
to my identity and not show up on the programs list for the other members of
my family. (I am rapidly realizing that I wanted XP Pro to do this -
Arrgghh!). Realizing that I could not make the folders "private" I
experimented.
I have an old Win95 era program for calculating Energy Compliance forms
loaded. This was a simple little prog and would be quick to reinstall. I cut
the folder for this program from the "All Users" programs directory and
pasted into the programs directory in my Identities folder. It worked! The
program only shows up in the programs list in my identity, not the others.
Emboldened, I did the same with the AutoCAD 2000 folder. This did not work.
Upon restart the folder was right back in "All Users". Now, in the 2
administrator user accounts the program loads right up, but in the
restricted accounts I now get a window that reads: "Autocad: Failed to
update the system registry. Please try using Regedit. OK" Hit Ok and the
program runs fine.
Any ideas on what I've done and/or a quick fix? I'm very comfortable in
Regedit in Win98SE so I can correct the values if I knew where to look. Or
would it be easier to uninstall and reinstall AutoCAD? Wouldn't that leave
the stray registry entries behind?

So, I'm a troll. And I change my name every other day or so. So what. Don't like it?

So, Report me to
