problem with add/remove programs

John

This computer was upgraded from 98SE to XP with only one glitch that I know
of. There were dozens of programs installed over seven years. Right now
the list in add/remove is one screen of 14 programs and no matter how I sort
I can't get the other programs displayed. I read a solution that involves
editing a registry key for AutoCAD but I don't have AutoCAD and that was the
only solution I found. Any ideas?

This wasn't really a problem until I installed the Safari browser beta and
wanted to uninstall because it crashed at startup. I ended up doing a
system restore since Safari wasn't listed under Add or Remove.

John,

Is there a white space at the beginning or the list or in the centre of the
add/remove programs list?

I have a similar problem. Mine is XP SP2 and cannot displayed all the
programs. I had them all before. Anybody can help to fix this?
Thanks

Hi John,

While not a fix, if you have Spybot on your system, in the Advanced
Mode, there is a Tools tab that has Uninstall info. It shows you the
path and switches needed in order to uninstall programs.

While a bit lengthy, a repair install would most likely correct the
issue. Make sure you make a backup first.

I can scroll to have white at the bottom but there is no white within the
list.

Are you sure you scrolled to the bottom of the screen? When you see
the white space at the bottom, keep going and see if there are more
after a long white gap. If so, I believe there is a fix for
eliminating the white space, but I don't have it handy. First, let's
see if they are really missing, or just appear to be missing because
of several screens of white space.

Hi John,

There shouldn't be any white at all.
Remove the last program listed before the white starts via Add/Remove if
possible.

If not, this is generally due to the DisplayIcon having a negative number.
From here you can either remove the negative number or remove the last
application listed: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{}

You are correct. This time I used the down arrow to select the visible
programs and after Microsoft Compression Client there was a blue page then
35 more programs. I uninstalled compression client but now Java is the last
item and I still get a blue page then 35 programs. They are the end of the
alpha bet. There seems to be a problem program in the blue space between
Java and Microsoft Money 2000.

John,

This sounds like a problem I answered a few months back

The display icon has a negative value

START | RUN Type regedit & press ENTER

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Go through the list & in the right pane you need to remove the negative number
by double-clicking the entry...

Example:

C\SomeLocation\SomeFile.exe %-1
to
C\SomeLocation\SomeFile.exe %1

C\SomeLocation\SomeFile.exe, -1
to
C\SomeLocation\SomeFile.exe, 1

You will see the list display correctly

Hi guys
As I have a similar problem I'm trying what you suggest. I scrolled down the
list and it does'nt give more programs.
I went to Run Regedit, etc... and the list of folders in Unistall is
slightly different from the programs I have displayed (11 in Unistall, 19 in
Add/Remove).
Some are the same but some are different. eg: KB935839 in the registry and
KB 925672 in Add/Rem.
Some of these have the option in the right pane NoModify No Repair with # 1.
I know this is to activate the option Change Repair but still cannot find all
the programs. More I do not know how to have them in the Add/Remove list.
Any suggestions?
Should I set ALL the NoMOdify/No Repair options in All the folders in the
right pane #0?
greatly appretiated
Ale

First time going through the uninstall list I haven't found a -1 to edit.
It was tedious. I guess I need to go through it again.

All MS OSs are best installed totally fresh, NOT as an upgrade.

Hi John,

With Registrar Lite v2.00 build 200.30803, I can do a search
of a specific 'sub'-key for a value.

I have tried later versions of Registrar Lite, and always
end up going back to that version. Resplendence is up to
v5.0, and they just don't seem to have gotten it right since
that version.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph
