Playing WAV files in web pages

I have a web page that has a WAV file for background music. However, it
takes 5 minutes to download the song. When I open up the page now, it works
fine, but other people have the same problem the first time they load the
page. Does anyone know how to resolve this to make it play right away?
Thanks.

It means the file must be huge. You need to change the format to mp3 or shorten the length of the
song.

Use a smaller file size - WAV's are not known for their 'compression' features.
Try something like MP3 or other.

It is also best to give users a choice of playing it or not. Don't force them to
listen as this will turn your visitors away. If a page doesn't load within
30secs (max) you're risking losing visitors outright (whether with background
music or not).

To use MP3 files, do you need to have a plug-in? I thought WAV files were in
about the only format that play without a plug-in. I have a bunch of MP3
files on my computer, but when I searched for them to use as background
music, none of them were recognized.
