Playing Music in All Slides of a PPT Presentation

Still using Office XP... When I put an mp3 file into the presentation,
it plays only after I hit the spacebar once, and then doesn't play after
I hit it again to proceed to the next slide.
How can I get it to play the file throughout the entire presentation
without interruption? Perhaps even time each slide so after X seconds
it proceeds automatically?

I apologize if I'm a bit incoherent, I'm getting over a major flu.

I think I'm getting close...
But I can only do wav files, not mp3s.
Is that a limitation of XP?

You should be able to insert mp3s. Oh unless they are downloads from
itunes - they all come with DRM (I think - I don't use itunes myself). What
steps are you following and what is happening - the clearer you can be the
more accurate an answer we can give :)

No, just a standard mp3, no DRM to speak of.
Let me ask you this... what steps should I take to put sound in during
the whole slideshow? Not just a transition sound?

Ah yes, as John said you can't use mp3s as transition sounds. Sorry, I
didn't realise the article suggested transition sounds (it's so long since I
actually read the thing!). See the section of the article
(http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00047.htm) called 'add more than one sound'.
