CPU running at 500Mhz, 128 ram, and the Nvidia riva could
be the issue. Have you thought about upgrading; I meant
updating?

Sorry to say it, cause you won't like what you read

CPU is too slo
Not enough RA
Video card is way too slo

PCs use software to decode the DVD info and run the video output to the Monitor. A component DVD player that plugs into a TV uses hardware which is way faster, but that same hardware can't calculate the formulas in a spreadsheet

SO if you want Movies on a PC get yourself something over 2.0Ghz + 512Mb RAM + 8 X AGP Video Card with > 64Mb on board DD-RAM. ie More is better.

Thanks

I still don't understand why I had no problems playing DVD's with the same RAM and video card using Windows 98.

This problem has only come about since I upgraded to Windows XP. Why does a new operating system prevent the existing RAM/video card from playing DVD's

XP is more demanding of system resources than 98 was.

I play DVDs fine with my Athlon 900, 512Mb PC-133 SDRAM, and Geforce2 32Mb
video card w/ XP Home. Plays very smooth.

Maybe he needs to just add some memory and upgrade his video card?
