Playing a dvd on XPE

Purchased a Wyse Winterm 941GXL thin client. Swapped out
the cd-rom with a dvd-rom. XP grabs drivers and when you
put in a DVD the drive recongnizes it, but when you go to
play it with Media Player it says "Windows Media Player
cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is
not installed on your computer." So I got "WinDVD"
decoder and tried to install. It doesn't finish and
says"System error during decompression". Not sure what to
do...help

Jeff,

Most likely, "DVD Playback" component has not been included into this
Winterm version. I don't think you've got the SLX project file for the thin
client image, have you? Wyse usually does not give up any file :-(. So, it
will be hard for you to struggle for DVD play on the client. You can try
pinging Wyse support - they may be more specific for getting you help to fix
the issue.
WinDVD was a good choice especially if you chose DX Pack that brings
necessary WMP DVD codec. If you don't get any support from Wyse (I may
expect that) you may hack the device/software by monitoring what
dlls/registries are missing for WinDVD install package. You may want to use
Regmon/FileMon tools to do so.
Only one thing I can tell you for sure - in one of our custom XPe images we
were able to run WinDVD with no problems and have had the missing WMP DVD
codec to work perfectly. That image was pretty big and included very many
components, though.

Sorry, couldn't help more,
KM
