Dvd Playing

I had no problem putting in a DVD and playing it in my computer untill
yesterday.
When I try to start a DVD now in my computer I get this (Windows Media
Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed
on your computer)
Can anyone tell me what download that I can get from Microsofts free
doanloads to fix this.
I have Windows XP Home Addition.
Thanks
John

Are we talkin' about the exact same DVD...or 2 different DVDs? I've
played DVDs on my XP before, but recently a home-made DVD generated a
similar message about needing a compatible DVD decoder. If the DVD
that worked b4 works now, then you'll have to get the decoder that the
other DVD requires in order to play it. If all DVDs fail to run,
that's another matter.

If this occurred from one day to the next...
something must have been installed/uninstalled
or updated that damaged your DVD Decoder
files.

I'm thinking it may be worth a try to do a System
Restore to time before this occurred.

(306084) HOW TO: Restore the Operating
System to a Previous State in Windows XP

Running System Restore in Safe Mode is
the best method.

MS Does not offer a free DVD Decoder...
but you could purchase a DVD Decoder...

Info on DVD Decoders:

or...

Or...you could try the free VLC Media Player...

Or...you could try installing the following codec pack...

Vista Codec Package 5.3.7 Final

(click the links below DOWNLOADS in Yellow)

Good luck.
