Playback speed with mp3 and CD is funny

I recently had to re-install XP. Now, when I try to play
back mp3s or music from a CD, the song will play normally
for few seconds, then speed up, then slow down, etc.

I get the same thing using WMP or MusicMatch.

Anyone have any idea/solution?

To resolve this behavior, specify DMA as the IDE
transfer mode:
In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System, click the Hardware tab, and then
click Device Manager.
Double-click to expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
folder, double-click Primary IDE Channel, and then click
the Advanced Settings tab.
In the Transfer Mode box, click PIO only, and then click
OK.
Double-click Primary IDE Channel, and then click the
Advanced Settings tab.
In the Transfer Mode box, click DMA if available, and
then click OK.
Restart the computer.
If this doesn't solve the problem, reverse the above
procedure. Either print or make a copy of these
instructions. Good luck.
