Play mode jerky and very slow

After making my video and transfering it into a DVD format, it plays well on my computer, but when I play it on my big TV it plays very slow and jerky.
Suggestions are welcome!

Which software did you use to encode it? What bitrates and variable or
constant? Was the original file a dv-avi? Where did the orinal file come
from? How long is the movie? Check www.dvdrhelp.com to see if your dvd
player has any compatability issues with the type of disc ou are using
