play dvds ?

having had windows 98 for a few years i decided to
upgrade to xp.everything seemd to be ok untill i tried to
play a dvd, nothing.no dvd in drive d the error message
read.after reinstalling power dvd updating aspi drivers
the result was the same can anyone help please
