1)I have Window ME already installed in my new computer.
Reading some literature at the bookstore, I have learned
that before installing WINDOW XP, I would need to check if
some softwares or programs already installed in my computer
are going to work and not to have any problem. Is there any
download to check those progroms in order to update or
prevent that trouble?

2)I learned that one of the WINDOWS XP has ability to check
spelling in some foreign languages. Which one of the
softwares is: THE HOME VERSION (Or) THE PROFESSIONAL VERSION>
I only need it for home use, but I am interested in the
multilanguage spelling check.

Thank you

Xp pro is the one you want it will do what you want it to
How old is your computer if it is under 800mhz and and
dose not hav 128mb of rame it wount work. the home edition
has flaws and you will be sorry if you buy it.

That is the most moronic and inaccurate post ever.
Disregard it. There is little difference between the two versions of XP, and
none in terms of reliability. There is no spellchecker in either one.

To answer the one question from the OP, you can do a very
accurate scan for upgrading to XP using the services at
www.pcpitstop.com

They also have some useful benchmarking on-line.

Disrespect, especially from supposedly intelligent people, is not only
counter productive to newsgroups, but downright bad manners. If you can't
post polite messages, I suggest you go away and play with somebody else's
ball!

Meanwhile, 'anonymous', as you seem to be very inexperienced, I suggest you
install XP Home. It's easier to handle and you will find a lot more people
can help when you get problems.

You will want to confirm which programmes you are running are compatible and
obtain drivers for those that are not. You get all this from the software
maunufacturers' websites. Where you can't get an updated driver, XP has a
very good Compatibility facility to help with the problem.

Once you have all the updated drivers - I suggest they be kept in a special
folder - uninstall everything, including peripherals - printer, scanner
et. - then, after installing XP, reinstall using the new drivers.

Good luck,

Ed

Sorry, but this isn't even close to correct. In order to work at
all, a 233MHz processor is required, although it probably won't
work well with one that slow. But many people run XP with a 350
or 400MHz processor very effectively. One of my computers here
is a 256MB 400MZ PII. It's no speed demon, but it's far from
unusabale.

Regarding memory, the official minimum is 64MB, but that is much
too little for decent performance. Even 128MB isn't really
enough. How much any individual needs depends on the apps he
runs, but most people running common business apps need somwhere
between 256 and 512MB.

Ant that too is wrong. XP Professional and XP Home are exactly
the same in all respects, except that Professional has a few
features (mostly related to networking and security) missing from
Home. For most (but not all) home users, these features aren't
needed, would never be used, and buying Professional instead of
Home is a waste of money.

For details go to

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.asp

Also note that Professional allows ten concurrent network
connections, and Home only five.
