µTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) is the only bit torrent client I know
that will allow you to connect and download the file.

I'm seeding also. Everyone is welcome to download the torrent and get the
file. I don't mind dial up users. The more people downloading and sharing,
will make the whole process faster. I suggest downloading and seeding even
if you don't plan on using it. So other people can get it easier.

I too am seeding. Just a note to potential seeders. I found that once my
download was complete, it wouldn't start seeding until I changed the port to
6881 (one of the original bittorrent default ports) to get it started. Once
seeding has commenced, the port number can be changed back to whatever (I
think). Found this out by trial and error, but thought it worth mentioning,
as a lot of people are using non-standard ports.

Don't know why this is, but it is. I noticed one other client connected
last night, atom something or atomic something. Anyhow, µTorrent is pretty
cool, single file, no install and FAST.

The only port preference I found is the listening port so ..

I dont know anything about uTorrent and just downloaded and after a
while the seeding started.

However, what surprises me - and here I got no answer from the group -
the upload is quite slow, with currently 2 - 8 kb/s whereas
http://www.adslguide.org.uk measures 84.1 KB/sec upload speed. How's
that difference possible ? Are there any options to tweak ?

Hmmm... Could be a slight confusion between bits and bytes here.
As I understand it (I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong), there are 8
bits to one byte. ISP's like to quote their speeds in bits (I guess because
the number sounds bigger), whereas file downloads are usually measured in
bytes.
So...... your 84k upload speed is actually around 10k (divide by 8), and
your figures look quite realistic.

My line is supposed to be rated at 200k upload. I rarely see more than 20k
uploads on bittorrent. 20 * 8 = 160k I guess that is about right in the
real world.

I started this BitTorrent thing last evening. It is completed now and the status
says
"seeding". I did not change any settings - just did the download and used the
settings
it had. Whatever it's doing it is per the default settings.

Is there anything else I need to do? Just let it continue as is? The dl is
complete and
it's seeding. I have some errands to run. Later.

I think it is a good idea to be able to download using torrent.

But in my torrent client Azureus, I get
"Error: NullPointerException"
and I do not get this kind of error when I e.g. download Knoppix.

There's a reason for that. . .

http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#What_is_DHT.3F

µTorrent's DHT implementation is the same as Mainline and BitComet's,
but unfortunately this is incompatible with Azureus's implementation.

I suggest you use uTorrent for this download.

Just let it run. If you need to shut uTorrent off temporarily all you
have to do to continue seeding the ISO is start uTorrent again. It will
do the rest. :)

I've seen some BitComet/0059 and 0060 bannered peers downloading from
here on a relatively slow seed, so I guess it's confirmed that BitComet
users will be happy.

Time to do a little playing with BitComet and Mainline ;-)

Looking good! Now at 26 Seeds and 31 Peers, the downloads appear
to be more stable and faster. Last night there were 11 downloading a
trickle from here when 3 http downloaded seeds existed but right now
this has transformed just 2 downloading. One is pulling 19 kB/s from here
with 480 kB/s total from the torrent the other 137 kB/s from the torrent.

Thanks everyone for pushing for a Torrent feed! Last time I looked at
torrents 18mths ago they were a PITA. Seems client design and GUI have
improved enormously. I'm a convert too...

I also hit a snag starting a Seed on a new .torrent file that failed for
20 mins.
However an exit and relaunch of uTorrent brought immediate results when
this forced uTorrent to examine the finished file for completeness before
getting on with uploading.

I'll second that vote of thanks. Thanks also to Soren Hedeby Sorensen
who nominated uTorrent fot the Pricelessware List this year and an
ENORMOUS thank you to Ash - who works mostly behind the scenes. The
downloads from Ash's site have *fueled* the bit torrent. Ash, thank you
for advice and assistance, for hosting the PL2005 ISO and this year's
too. We might have been able to do it without you but it would have been
a LOT harder. . .

Has somebody here tried it with BitComet?[/QUOTE]

I saw banners with BitComet/0059 and BitComet/0060 peering
without problems - if not fake.
Got feet up just now watching Cold Play on TV and haven't
played with other clients yet.

Seen "Unknown AX/0100" being successful as well, saving a
google on that for the next adverts ;-)
