PL2006 --> alt.binaries.freeware

I'm going to start sending files going tonight to the alt.binaries.freeware
newsgroup.

The NFO and initial PAR2 file will be sent first.

Due to the size of the ISO file I used QuickPar to split the file into 45
smaller chunks. Those files will be sent next.

I suggest people use QuickPar to combine the data chunks into the actual ISO
file once QuickPar has determined you have no missing parts or enough parts
to fix things. Actually the latest version of QuickPar will offer to do
this for you if it determines you have enough parts to reassemble the file.

Then if things are still working the remaining 18 PAR2 files will be sent,
making a total of 19 PAR2 files.

My link is not the fastest but possibly that will help people feeding from
absent minded servers to keep up.

No requests for resends will be accepted until 3 days after the last PAR2
file goes out so use the PAR2 files. With luck the resends will be few.

QuickPar is a freeware program and can be downloaded from the authors site
at http://www.quickpar.org.uk/

Very simply, if you d/l a large file that is in segments
which is beneficial in the event a connection is lost or a
file becomes corrupted for some reason, you can use the
supplied par files which are created from the original files
to automatically repair or even replace corrupt or missing
segments or complete files instead of trying a complete
rerun of the download which may also be corrupt. If you d/l
much of anything, you need to become familiar with par file
useage.

It's a place where people can publicly post Freeware programs or files. For
the most part it's not used for short text files or messages like what you
read in this group. People there expect to see large multi-part files
rather than messages going from people to people.

Usually it's pretty quiet unless something like PL2006 comes along or some
script kiddies try to use it to send non-Freeware stuff to each other.

Due to the possible bandwidth that binary (as in program files) can swallow
many news group providers do not carry them unless they are a Pay service.
Still there are free sites available where one can download newsgroup with
in the providers restrictions.

One such can be found at biggulp.readfreenews.net. There the owner provides
the use of the equipment and link on his test and development machines which
are used to support his retail newsgroup servers at news.octanews.com. As
long as people respect the limitations he imposes anyone can try to connect
there and download information. It gives him a place to test new
operational software and settings with out upsetting the paying customers on
the Octanews servers.
