pivot tables

I am trying out a pivot table for the new equipment in my unit. I am working
with XL2007.
I made the data according to Debra's( contextures site) advice and created
the pivot table. However I am getting two rows for pumps. I am having 23
pumps. Under one row there are 17 listed and in the other 6 listed. How to
get them in under one row heading as they are same equipment.

Hi

I suspect you mean in different columns as opposed to rows.
Are they truly in different columns, or are some values left justified and
others right justified in the same column?

Can you post a small sample of your source data, and what the PT report
looks like.

excel sheet 1 has the data as follows

Pump manufacturer Type location year installed
H.Exh
transmitter

In the pivot table I get

pump
pump
heat ex
transmitter

why is the pump duplicated? In sheet 1 when I use auto filter only one pump
entry is seen.

Hi,

Check your data in the column containing Pump you will find the some of the
entries for Pump are really Pump followed by one or more spacebars, which of
course you can't see, but Excel can.

remove the trailing spaces and refresh the pivot table.
