Pivot table turned flat!

Hi all,
I developed a spreadsheet a while ago that contained 1 pivot table that is
linked to one column in the main sheet. Above the pivot table i had a control
button to enable users to refresh the pivot table. All was working fine until
one day one of the users informed me that they are getting an error when they
try to refresh:
"Run-time error 1004: Unable to get the PivotTables property of the
Worksheet class".
The way it looks like now is that the Pivot Table actually turned flat ..
it's not pivot table anymore .. Visually, it still looks the same as the last
time it was successfully refreshed, but it's not connected to the main source
anymore. If i right-click on it, i don't get the menu related to pivot tables.
No one is giving me any clue as to how it happened or what was the last
action done before it crashes. So i'm left to guess.
Any idea what can possibly cause a pivot table to vanish? Especially that
the worksheet was password protected (to prevent curious fingers from messing
things up) and especially that the table was working fine before that? and
how can i prevent that from happening in the future? I'm using Excel 2003.
Many thanks

Hi again,
I just want to add another new error that i'm getting now when i try to open
the file:

"Errors were detected in file '[file paths]'
The following is a list of repairs:

PivotTable report 'PivotTable3' on '[file name]REPORT' was discarded due to
integrity problems."

I have no idea what this means. Anyone able to help please?

Hi there,
Does anyone need me to rephrase my question? Since i didn't get any replies,
i'm starting to think that maybe my question is not clear.
I need assistance with this quesiton urgently .. any hint or clue would be
much appreciated .. i have been reading help files for the last 5 hours and
still can't find an explanation of what happened to that pivot table.
Many thanks

Hi Tendresse,

I am having the exact same issue. I read somewhere that this was a known
bug and I actually found a microsoft hotfix for it. I need my IT dept to
download and install all files however when I directed them to the location
of the hotfix, they were not able to help me for some reason. I am looking
for it right now and am going to try and do it myself so we shall see what
happens next. As a side note, I got this error message again yesterday so I
opened a version of the file I saved on my local drive versus the network and
it opened fine. I am suspecting the bug kicks in when opening files over a
network but am not sure about this and is purely a guess right now on my part.

Hi

One possibility is that someone has deleted the column label on the source
data sheet, or extended the range to include a column without a label.

Anything is possible but once again today I was able to open the copy on my
local drive fine but the exact same copy on the network would not open
without breaking the pivot tables. I am starting to suspect it is the
combination of saving the file on the network and having it password
protected that causes this bug. I am trying another suggestion I found that
said to uncheck the refresh on open button in the pivot tables options before
saving the file and that seems to have worked so far today. I will beleive
that fix after I re-boot my laptop and then try and open the file on the
network tomorrow.
