I have just found out that i have a pirated- xp pro installed?

I used to have xp home which came already installed when i bought it brand
new.-but it crashed-i got a guy to fix it.He did.but he never told me he had
installed a pirated xp pro?

Now i want to know if it could be possible to uninstall the pirated
version-and reinstall my home version from the recovery cd that my supplier
included?

If its any use-he also installed a pirated version of trend micro security
suite 2005. and this is stopping me i'm positive?

when i try to uninstall trend micro from "add/remove" i get a box poping up
with this-"Fatal error" and i cant even uninstall that?

From the Microsoft's website: "Product Activation Facts"
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/activation_faq.mspx

"What should a customer do if they find they unwittingly acquired a pirated
copy of Windows XP? How can a customer acquire a legitimate license for
Windows XP if they find that theirs is pirated?
The customer should go back to the point of purchase and demand a refund or
a genuine copy of Windows XP. Customers can also contact Microsoft directly
at http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspand report the
piracy.

Customers can acquire a legitimate copy of Windows XP from a trusted
retailer or PC manufacturer. "

Unfortunately, you can't simply uninstall the pirated XP Pro. You can use
the recovery CDs that came with your computer, but they will completely
erase your hard disk and re-install the software that was on your computer
when it was shipped to you. You would then have to setup your computer once
again and update all your software. Inconvenient perhaps, but it will
certainly work. Don't forget to backup all your important files and folders.

You'll have to contact TrendMicro for advice about their software.

Ted.

hi.

I have immediately informed both windows and trend micro about my two
pirated programmes! In fact the support guys at trend are great people.I am
still waiting for my next e-mail from them. They have been suggesting various
things to try to help me uninstall my pirated XP PRO/trend micro! -but so far
nothing has helped?

Do you really think that it would be worth all the trouble-if i decide to
put my xp recovery cd into my pc?

Does that mean that all i need to do is to put the recovery cd in and
install it?

Wont the XP PRO disable the recovery cd installing?

I backed-up all my files yesterday! (i used Nero) and i must say that system
is fantastic to use.very easy to understand.

Only you can decide whether it's worth your while to use the recovery CDs.
If you've been having problems with your PC and cannot solve them, starting
all over again will fix that. Just be sure to prepare thoroughly. Remember:
Anything you haven't backed up will be gone, permanently. That includes
programs for which you do not have installation CDs.

Each OEM decides how their recovery system will work, so you should contact
the manufacturer of your PC for advice on how to use their recovery system.

If your PC has a so-called recovery partition, you should know that such
partitions are made invisible to Windows, so the XP Pro install will not
have damaged yours.
