pirated Windows XP PRO

I'll try to make this short...
Took my computer in to get hard drive replaced. The guy (without asking)
uninstalled my Genuine Version of Windows XP Home and replaced it with the
"FAKE" XP PRO along with a couple of other things he replaced (cause he
thought his stuff was better) Now then, my question.....

How do remove XP PRO and put my version back on?? Step by Step please.
I tried to reinstall mine and I get this message:

-- Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.
Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is
currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be
recovered.

Need someone to point me in the right direction so I can keep.......

First off I would go to the "guy" and ask him why he replaced your
operating system. Many tools are available to completely copy your
current OS and put it on a new hard drive.

As for you current problem, your genuine version of XP disk should be
bootable. Set you BIOS to boot to CD first, and do a complete reinstall
from your own CD. Since he replaced your old OS with Pro, it is a new
installation anyway and you won't lose anything in the process if you
tell it to reformat your hard drive before installation.

How did you determine your new version is pirated?

One step only: You go back to the "guy," tell him that he needs to undo what
he did and put it back properly and promptly, and that if doesn't he will
hear from your lawyer.

That kind of behavior is irresponsible, and you shouldn't accept it.

That's because the installed version has SP2 (or SP1) and your CD is without
the service pack.

However it doesn't matter. The reason you got that message is that you were
doing it improperly. You can't do a clean reinstallation from within
Windows. Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if
necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted,
then create a new one).

1. Contact this individual and demand a complete refund.

2. Contact Microsoft and report this individual; Microsoft has an active
anti-piracy program.

3. Report the individual to the local authorities and the local BBB.

4. Never do business with individuals that you are not sure of their
business practices.

Say you want your original XP back.I think you don't have any settings in
particular to
backup. So just format the drive where Windows is currently residiing (C:\ ?)

Then install it as you would regularly.

If you have something to backup then, get a friends PC connect your HDD
under his machine
copy what you want.Install XP
