pink areas of display with nvidia geforce fx 5900 after latest windows update

Thomas

I've got an nVidia GeForce FX 5900, and it has been fine for many
months.

This morning I have noticed pink dots / pink areas in many places on
the screen, usually in places where there is a specific shade of blue,
but not always.

These pink areas are not fixed on the screen, but rather to whatever
image they are appearing on. Like in my blue-shaded title bar, near the
end towards the minimize/maximize/close buttons, is a small area that
is pink which should be blue. If I move the window around, the pink
stays on that part of the window. (Just to illustrate it is not affixed
to a certain part of the screen.)

I have the latest nvidia geforce drivers from November 2004 (66.93).
This only happens when I have it in true color (32-bit mode). If I
change to 16-bit mode, it goes away. If I switch it back to 32-bit, it
comes back.

The only recent change made to my system was the installation of the 11
security updates released by Microsoft on February 9, 2005 (yesterday).
I will try uninstalling these later to find if that is the problem, but
I wanted to give everyone a heads up, and see if anyone else is having
an issue like this.

Hello, Have similar set up with one exception using 6177 driver. No pink dots.
Ran a 3d type game to check color no pink problem. Will follow thread and
hope you find a resolution to this problem.
Take Care.

Hi,

Sometimes a color distortion can be caused by the video cable. Check to see
if they are plugged in all the way (I know obvious suggestion), next
carefully flex the cable in different places and see if anything happens to
the screen. Sometimes the video port on the display or the card is bad and
if you move the connector a bit you can see a color change. Usually if the
vid card is going bad, the picture would disappear, if its the cable, you
usually loose a color, same with connecting port. One other thing to do is
connect the computer to another display and the display to another computer
to see if it happens, if so, then you know what is the problem
