i have set up a home network with a PC running XP Pro connected to a D-Link
router and a laptop running XP Home connected by a wireless adapter. The
problem is that I can only see the PC and its shared folders on my laptop
when the PC is on. However, internet works all the time. What can I do to
resolve this?

So you expect to connect to and share
files with a PC when it is turned off?

Do you also expect to watch TV while
your TV is turned off?

Here's a thought - Turn off the router
and see how well everything is working then.

This is, unfortunately, the way things work. If a computer is off or in
standby mode you won't be able to see shared files or folders on it.

Maybe using offline files will do what you want.

Use Help and Support and search for "Offline Files". It'll tell you all
about it.

I dont even understand why people shut their PC's off. It's completely
pointless. and besides, turning your computer on and off alot will ruin your
hard drive. when the hard drive is on, the disks are expanding. when it is
off and cooling off, they shrink. So if they do this enough, the disks will
lose data, or eventually shatter within the hard drive.

Unfortunately, XP Home Edition doesn't have Offline Files. Only XP
Professional does.

I'm sorry Shawn, but this is completely untrue. Lots of people turn
their computers off because electricity costs are quite high in many
parts of the world. I enjoyed your imagery of the disks shattering
within the hard drive, but that isn't going to happen.
