Hi everyone,
am stuck with a minor but nasty problem. am unable to use the ping.exe
utility in Windows XP. i need this to check my connectivity with my ISP
and other network peers. as soon as i try to ping ANYTHING(even the
localhost) it hangs. the details from event viwer r as below:

i tried to run it under SAFE mode in case some app might be restricting
it from functioning but to no use i even replaced the utility with the
original one from my installation disk but even that didn't work out.
but it seems theres some problem with the utility itself because i
downloaded a 3rd party pinging utility and it worked just fine!

note: i have tested my firewall and antivirus options..they r not
interfering.
-i have nod32 installed

guys pls help me out..this little problem is driving me nuts as not
much info is available for this type of problem on net.

Thanks

You might be running a malware version of ping.exe instead of
the real thing. Try this command instead (verbatim, please!):

%SystemRoot%\system32\ping.exe www.google.com

K

KS

nope i have checked on that...the ping utility is the original one.
also i removed it and windows again recreated it back to its original
state...so it can't be fake. when i installed fresh windows xp it was
working fine...but after i installed all the necessary apps. it started
giving this problem...am sure its some software interfering with it.

confusing thing is that 3rd party ping utitlities r working normally.
