Is anyone able to ping news.microsoft.com? I'm having problems
connecting with my news server ( news.comcast.giganews.com ) Error Code:
0x800CCC0E and in playing around found pinging news.microsoft.com always
times out but I can connect with it. I am able to ping my ISP, mail
server and any other attempt but this one (along with my news server
:( always times out.

Many servers are set to not respond to ping requests because
that is one way to stop the script-kiddies DoS attacks.
Denial of service attacks have a group of computers (often
infected computers) request ping at the same time, to
over-load the server and cause a system crash.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case..

I did find out my problem with 'news.comcast.giganews.com' is server
related and they're telling me "shortly." What a hassle getting any
tech help though. Two phone calls, nobody knew, contacted giganews and
they threw me back to Comcast and finally my second live chat I got a
guy who had info they're having server problems. Shee...

John, I'm a new Comcast customer and have just started tapping into their
giganews newsfeed. It seems to be a bit flakey to me and am seeing many
time outs too. I've reset the timeout value in my news reader as high as
I'm willing to go. That has minimized the number of time out notices I get
but has not eliminated them. From there, all that can be done is "try again
later."
