[Pimmy] Version 4.0 beta 1a - mail/news/rss

A

Angelo Donatiello

Hello everybody.

It's a pleasure to announce the first beta of Pimmy 4.0, available in
English and Italian on our web site www.geminisoft.com.

Non-English speaking users may download this beta and configure Pimmy to
use two language files, so that Pimmy will use English only for new menus
and sentences. Please refer to the manual for details.

Before installing this version, please carefully read the "What's new"
chapter of manual, available online too, and in particular the paragraph
"Migrating from Pimmy 3.5".

This beta test version will expire on April 30, 2005, when a new beta will
be available. By the way you can go back to Pimmy 3.5 in any moment without
loosing your settings.

Pimmy 4.0 will be a commercial product: selling terms have not been
determined yet but the price will be affordable by everyone. We would like
to thank who in the past contributed to our donation program, a few people
that of course will receive a free license for the final release.

We also thank who have contributed to improve Pimmy, and we are sure to
have responded in these years with a better product. We hope you would like
to prefer us for the near future too.

Ok, after the "commercial" matters, these are the news features of Pimmy
4.0.

- Individual read / unread messages management with bold font for unread
messages.
- IMAP4 protocol support.
- Faster folders management.
- Cache management (local copy) for mailboxes and newsgroups to be able to
view the list of messages already downloaded or displayed.
- RSS / ATOM channels support for news reading and blogs.
- Messages import from Outlook Express, Thunderbird and other mail
programs.
- Some changes to user interface.

We look forward to receiving remarks and suggestions from you.

Thank you very much. Bye.

Pimmy 4.0 will be a commercial product:

Seems Pimmy is going off topic :-(

The freeware version is a very nice app. Will you continue to provide a
download of 3.5 and the language files?

Pimmy 4.0 comes from the freeware version... so I think it is nice too :)

Not yet decided. At the moment we continue distributing and supporting
Pimmy 3.5 until final Pimmy 4.0 will be available. Then we will decide how
to proceed.

Bye,

No, it isn't.

Bye,

So it costs money and isn't open source.

Guarantee I can find software to do the same job, as well
or better, that is both free and opensource.

Bye.

I am sure you can at present and this is not a problem for us.

I am sure you can at present and this is not a problem for us.

The amount of free and opensource software available is
staggering, and there is more everyday.

To say that this is not a problem for you is either disengenuous
or you are an idiot.

If everyone who had software to sell advertised on the Usenet,
there wouldn't be room for anything else.

Certain newsgroups are devoted to commercial activity, this
one, comp.mail.misc, isn't. Most of them aren't. Their charters
indicate whether such posts are permitted. If the subject isn't
mentioned, they aren't.

We don't sell software here, we give it away.

And give _free_ advice on using and configuring and
trouble-shooting mail tools of all sorts.

AC

Where have I heard that before.

I hoped just that this gioiellino remained to freeware, not as well as for
the expenditure (than for a valid program how much for the principle is
however justifiable).

I augur myself of being able to have your permission in order to continue

:) ok ok, dont' become too nervous, it is not necessary.

Pimmy has always been announced on these newsgroups, so to reach all of our
users we have thought to post a message here. In addition, to be clear from
the first beta, we have stated that Pimmy is going to become a commercial
product. It was not mandatory because all the betas will be "free", but we
thought it was better to say it asap.

It's not our intention to use these newsgroups to advertise our activities,
in fact we won't post more messages.

Your opinion is appreciable, but you should appreciate our clearness and
honesty too.

That's all.

Anyone else just have a stong vision of a bird pecking at it's reflection
in a window pane?

I'd write more, but my black pots and kettles just escaped confinement and I
must go round them up again.

Thank you for your message.

About evaluation period, beta 1 expires on april 30 2005. Final release
should have classical evaluation period of 30 days, to let people try all
features and test in in their daily situation before buying.
