I have set up a peir to pier netowrk using one desktop, one laptop
computer and one 10MB hub. both machines are setup with the same
workgroup, both have administrative rights, they can see each other,
both have file and pring sharing, but when i attempt to view my
documents on the laptop from the desktop, it is asking me for a user
name and password. The laptop can view the my documents of the desktop
without any problem. Both machines are setup using Windwos XP
Professional.

I do not know the user name and password it is asking for. I need both
machines to be able to view each others my documents without any
passwords.

Can some one tell me what I am doing wrong

Interesting to find these on a LAN - do you also have docks, buoys, quays,
and so forth?

psst.... it's actually "peer-to-peer" ;-)

Create both user accounts/passwords identically on each computer. You might
also disable simple file sharing, since you're using XP Pro - this lets you
set your NTFS security more granularly.
