PID for Windows Media Player same as Windows XP?

I was trying to get some online support with Microsoft for Windows
Media Player. On their web site, according to the instruction on
obtaining PID for Media Player, it's the same as Windows XP? I bought
my XP home edition copy as OEM, the original seller/store of this
product wants nothing to do with Media Player, while Microsoft won't
support OEM product. Where can I get some answer on Media Player?

As Media Player is part of Windows and Windows is OEM, the only recourse you
have for support is the OEM. If they won't assist you - shove the EULA in
their face!

The Product ID is different.
Open Media Player
Click Help
Click About
The Product ID of Windows Media Player is there.

You have run into one of the many disadvantages of the money you saved
by buying OEM.
Because it is OEM, Microsoft has no free support for you.
The OEM determines what if any support is given to their buyers.
Apparently none in this case which is usually OK.
Do you have a written agreement/contract with the seller?
If not and you simply bought OEM Windows XP, you most likely are
entitled to no support of any kind from the seller.

Start a new thread in the Media Player newsgroup and give details of
your issue.
Someone is likely able to help.

That's correct - Media Player for Windows XP is a base part of the Windows
XP SKU.

Go to a Run of WMP, and look in its Help - About Media Player.

The PID I see is not the same as the Windows one; whether it will also
be an OEM one I don't know; but the trick might be to get an update
version , later than the one that came with your Windows, at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en
WMP 9 is currently #5 in the list
