Pictures on the web are 'pixellated' and not clear.

I have no problem with any of the graphics and pictures on my laptop, they
are beautifully clear, except when on the web. I live in Spain and 'read' the
UK papers most days via the web but the pictures are awfull. I appreciate
they are low quality jpegs, many on 200 by 200 or so pixels, but they are not
really any use at all. I used (but not any longer for some reason) to be able
to right click and then click on 'show original picture' and they changed
dramatically, but slowly. I have checked all my settings, I have the optimum
resolution, 1024x768. I have reloaded my drivers and everything seems OK
until I go on the web. My video card is SiS650 on an Iridium laptop with
windows XP fully upgraded. Anyone have, or had, this problem and found an
answer?

You didn't say how you connect to the Internet. If you have dialup, does
your ISP provide some sort of "Internet Accelerator" software? If so,
then this is the source of your problem. This software compresses
images so you are actually downloading less data. You get the
impression that your dialup is faster, but it is really not; you're
just downloading less.

Good point, I had not thought of the ISP, also, I use ONSPEED, anybody had
similar problems when using this application. Personally, I rate ONSPEED very
highly having used it with a mobile/laptop connection here in Spain but its
system may well be a problem in this aspect as described by Malke. Anybody
have any further ideas?

I'm not familiar with ONSPEED, but it certainly sounds like a dialup
"accelerator". Try turning it off and see what happens to your
pictures.

OK Problem solved. I checked the settings for ONSPEED and changed them to
give a higher picture resolution with a consequential slower download speed.
I now have a happy medium and can change around depending on what I am
dowloading. Thanks for the help.
