Pictures not in pdf file created from Word

When I convert a Word 2003 document to pdf using Acrobat 7, the pictures
appear as box outlines. If I start Word in safe mode and then convert to pdf,
the pictures appear normally. I have worked through all the troubleshooting
options in support.dot but cannot find the problem.
What else should I try?

I haven't used it in a while, but as I remember it, Support.dot lets you
de-activate add-ins for troubleshooting?

If it works in safe mode, it does look very probable that some add-in is the
cause, but some add-ins can't be de-activated easily, but have to be removed
from the Windows control panel > Add or remove programs.

You can look under the Help menu (> Info > System info > Office > Word)
which add-ins are currently running, and check if you've really eliminated
all of them as potential trouble-makers with support.dot.

Thanks Klaus. I tried your suggestion and indeed, support.dot doesn't
deactivate all add-ins. I've removed them one by one but still haven't
tracked down the problem.

If you have removed all the addins
(http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm ) then
rename the normal.dot template to oldnormal.dot - the troubleshooting
process is essentially that at
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm
If I am not mistaken, if you start Word in its safe mode, the Actobat add-in
should not be available, so presumably you are 'printing' to the Adobe
driver. Have you installed the latest update for Acrobat?

Graham, in fact I'm adding the Adobe plug-in back in after I start Word in
safe mode using the vb immediate window. I then open the document containing
the the pictures and hit the convert to pdf button. This works fine.
