I have windows vista only 1 year old It updates on schedule and virus and etc
scans everyday and I have never had any problem until last week of opening my
attachments even ones I send to family of family pictures, I have scanned my
picture folder and no problems but in my emails after the emails come in and
I go to open attachment, (and yes I know the ones I open are safe to) they
will not open it just tells me there is no file, even on ones I have
previouly sent out, now if I exit windows mail and then go back in I can open
the attachments, in researching someone somewhere said certain emails with
certain graphics, example they mentioned Kim Komando newsletters, would
prevent you opening your own attach, I found this is true even with weather
updates, pollen updates for allergys, and pillsbury newsletters and etc,
anything with grapics, I never had this problem before until last week, I
have tried anything can think of and need help

Did you recently install IE8?

WinMail Tools | Options | Security | Block images... <=if you DISABLE this
option, does the behavior persist?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Do you have an available Restore Point which predates the install of IE8?
<=Just asking for now!!

my problem with this started May 18, IE8 did not install until May 23

WinMail Tools options , disable this you wrote of, yes it still persist

my antivirue, firewall, spyware, email scan and etc is McAfee, that was
trial version on my compt and I have stayed with it, I never did like norton
so when i ordered my compt i ordered it with McAfee

I had shut everything down as I am on slow dialup and it took several hours
to install IE8

yes, I would have available restore date, I try to avoid that unless
absolute necessary as doing that then it has to go in and update other
updates and like i said I am on slow dialup and that sucks but this problem
was exsisting almost week before IE8 was installed

I'm having difficulty understanding your problem statement because
it is one long run-on sentence!

Did you install the McAfee application you purchased on 18 May?

Did you uninstall the McAfee free-trial and then download/run the McAfee
Consumer Products Removal tool /before/ you installed the McAfee application
you purchased?

Did you disable McAfee VirusScan, the McAfee Firewall, and all real-time
"system protections" afforded by any installed anti-spyware application
(except for Windows Defender) and then enable the Windows Firewall before
you installed IE8?

McAfee antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Sometimes it takes a while before symptoms start showing up.
First of all, turn off email scanning in McAfee, although that may not be sufficient.
Next, delete that email account (because it has been corrupted by McAfee),
restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

If the problem continues, the only way you can prove or disprove that
McAfee is the culprit is to uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
If you decide to replace McAfee, we can recommend a free antivirus
program which is more compatible with Windows Mail:

Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects
of overly intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus,
for the reason explained here:

Similar to Gary I'm having serious problems to understand what you want
to say with your "all-in-one" posting.

Might you pls try to describe the situation in an understandable way?

Rainald
