Pictures have disappeared!

I have hundreds of pictures in My Pictures (and Picasa). Today I find they
are all gone. I can't bring them up at all. However when I search for them
under "Hidden" files, they are there. Also when I right-click My Pictures,
it shows that the size of the folder is around 7 GB. So I think they're
there, but I can't get them! (My Pictures is still "Read Only" and not
"Hidden", under Properties.)

Can anyone help restore my pix?

I cannot recall seeing this issue before...
Is it possible that someone logged into
a different user account and flagged that
folder as private?

Good idea! Went into safemode but they weren't there either ....I checked my
permissions in safemode as well, and they're fine... This is frustrating
because when I right-click My Pictures it shows that it contains 110 files so
they must be there somewhere, right? I tried uninstalling and installing
Picasa to see if it would "grab" the pictures from wherever they are, but no
luck. When they come up under "hidden" search, the file name is the same as
it's always been so they didn't get moved anywhere....Does anyone recommend
the software that retrieves files? Do you think that would work?

ok, another way to see something
of the files is to go into dos.

go to run and type cmd

then type attrib/? to see
what we are trying utilize.

the use of this dos command
with the file name will give you some
insight. Also, can help to reset
an attribute as well. Of course
you may not be able to do this
with each, so select one pic and
see what you are able to accomplish....

ok i tried this - I retrieved a couple of folders. then i also ran disk
cleanup. they started to appear....i honestly don't know what happened or how
i got them back... but they're back..
