pictures for desktop background

It was my understanding that with windows XP it seems that if I save a .jpg
or .bmp pictures into the "My Pictures" folder it will appear as an option
for a desktop background. Most of mine do, some do not. Is there a special
way you have to save to have it appear in the list of backgrounds and not
have to browse to it?

To clarify my prev post, I find that the picts have to be in "c:\Windows" as
a .bmp OR in my C:|windows\web\wallpaper folder. If I "browse" in the
display box to select a picture in say My Pictures, it adds this picture to
the list and seems to keep it there-is that correct? Can you delete items
browsed to from this list and still keep them in your My Pictures folder? I
hope this clarifies my question(s).

Thanks but I think maybe I was not clear. Once you browse to select a
picture for a background that selection ALWAYS stays there-even if you select
another from the browse function. My list is getting very full-How do you
remove a picture from the backgrounds listing? One PC keeps the list and
another does not so there must be a setting somewhere to keep any pict I
browse to on the list.

My list is getting very full

"Full", as in "I can't add more because the system is running out of
resources", or as in "the list is getting so long it's getting difficult to
manage"?

My asking may seem pedantic, but those are really different problems
requiring different solutions.

Full as in I have a long list (to me it is long) to go thru and just want to
set it to only look at C;/windows\wweb\wallpaper and select a My Pictures
Picture only if I select one.
