Is there anyway to run a series of pictures as a slide
show in windows 2000 like you can in windows xp?

If you copy the ssmypics.scr screen saver from an XP machine then it'll
run on a Win 2K PC and will allow pics to display as a slideshow
screensaver ...

It's excellent and it's freeware. Google for it.
 
Try CodedColor PhotoStudio. The slideshow beats the XP slide show in
ease of use and functionality.
