I have a picturemate and foolishly or not I bought a compatable
cartridge from ebay, when I inserted the cartridge the printer do not
recognise it. so I bought at true epson product but it will not
recognise that either.
Have I messed up by trying a copy cartridge?
Is there a way of overiding the error message and just printing?

Hope you can help.

DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT ASK THE REFILLER JERKS IN THIS NG WHO
KNOW NOTHING AND WILL MISLEAD YOU. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME
EITHER. CALL EPSON TECH SUPPORTS AND THEY WILL HELP YOU. TELL THEM
WHAT YOU DID

I don't know whether this printer is affected but some Epson printers require
the cartrdiges to be replaced in a specific way to avoid this problem.
You need to go into the printer driver, open the Status Manager, click on "How
To", and select the option that allows you to replace a cartridge that is not
empty. Follow those instructions and see how you get on. Printers that need
this procedure to be followed will often kick against any other method of cart
replacement.

More than likely either the "copy" bent of damaged the wires that read
the chip on the cartridge, or the wires need a good cleaning with some
rubbing alcohol. When you clean them, make sure to be gentle. They are
brittle. Make sure they don't look bend oddly, or that none have broken
off.

Thanks art, tried it but still the same, it jist seems such a rip off
that they try to hold a monopoly on thier products. There should be a
way to overide the capton and just carry on printing.

Try unplugging the printer for 15 minutes and if the problem still
exists on repowering, try reinserting the cartridge several times,
unplugging again between and waiting 15 minutes or so, and see if that
helps at all. Sometimes the printer just gets weird. I don't have the
reset codes for the Picturemate, unfortunately.
