Picture it! Photo Premium 9 on XP Pro SP3

Picture it! Photo Premium 9 hangs on saving a picture.
No way to kill the process([pi.exe) in task manager, must reboot.
Hour glass remains on a blank Picture it window after pressing save
All I can do is minimize/maximize window.

My XP Pro SP3 machine is virus free and runs perfectly on dozens of apps
I have latest update of everything.

This problem started after a Microsoft Update to IE or XP Pro.
....or it is due to the fact that I had to change my display monitor.
the new CRT I am using is the old one I had parked after I got a 19" which
has now broken down. I was able to swap to the old one, without problems, it
is smaller thus at the same resolution level it displays tiny letters as
compared to the 19" that died, but it works great... I have no problems
anywhere else on system.

I also have installed a microsoft web cam... it works great on the net.

Have read the article on Picture it Problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165
says it applies to SP1 and SP2 ...not SP3???
....yet I am having the problem described.
Since the instructions include heavy registry mods... I am holding off,
until I know more about this problem.

The microsoft update had been hanging as well, I had to repair it by
removing files on the work folder of the update mechanism(Update works fine
now).
Microsoft Support was trying to get me to do a massive amount of dangerous
work to recover the update, which I found later in a post, would not have
worked.

On this issue, they simply shove me off to figure it out myself... even
though they say that email support is free!!!

Help will be received with great gratitude.

Just some thoughts...

I suspect your freeze is probably caused by
a software conflict. Uninstalling software that
was installed since the issue began would be
somewhere to begin.

It also may be worth a try to do a System Restore
to a time before the issue began.

(306084) HOW TO: Restore the Operating
System to a Previous State in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084
(best bet is to run System Restore in Safe Mode)

This sounds like an issue that used to be related
to Norton GoBack...are you running any Norton /
Symantec software?

Also...if you are running Norton...try adding
piorg.db
to the AutoScan Exclusion List.

It also may be worth a try to reduce your Graphics
Hardware Acceleration as per the instructions in
the following article.

(272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot
Graphics Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193
(scroll down to:
Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP)

If it improves the issue, you need to search the
support website of your Video adapter's mfg. for
an updated video driver.

In either case...be sure to return Acceleration
to full.

Good luck.
