Picture file formats

I have rec'd from a hospital some xray pictures taken of my heart. The pictures have no file extension on them. I'm sure they were made with some proprietery software but......
Any idea how I can find what program I can view them with

You'll have to call the hospital and ask them. They most likely need
proprietary software or a special viewer to be opened and viewed. Maybe
the hospital can save them in a different format like jpeg and remail
them to you. What is the file extension, if you post it here there may
be a simple solution that a reader can provide, without knowing the file
extension it's pretty well poking in the dark. However most medical
imaging technology is quite specialized and proprietary.

Try opening them with IrfanView <http://www.irfanview.com/>. If it
recognizes the format, it will tell you what the appropriate extension is.
