picture attachments have stopped opening

Just recently I have been getting a message when I double click on jpg
attachments: "application not available". I am not sure what program was
opening attached pictures in the past. I had been doing some cleanup on my
hardrive, deleting programs never used. Arc Soft was the only picture program
I had uninstalled. I am wondering if this was the cause of my jpegs and tiffs
not opening. I thought that Windows had picture program that worked with
email picture attachments. HELP? (I'm on XP)

I tried to use PICTURE IT express but I got a message that I had to install
it by inserting my Microsoft office 2000 Pro SR-1 disk. Yikes I have lost
track of that disk a long time ago - I couldn't find my old MS 2000 disks for
the life of me. Can someone help me stop wandering around in the dark here? I
am not sure where to start or exactly what I'm looking for. I just want my
Jpg files taht are sent to me by email to open easily when I click on them.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

Elly, you have to have a properly installed picture viewer or editor to open
pictures. Once you figure out which is installed and which you'd like to
use, you can go to "File Types" under Folder Options in the Control Panel to
assign each file type (.jpg .gif .png .tif etc.) to open in that program.
There are too many file types and picture programs to completely cover here.
Another much easier choice is to open your properly installed picture
viewer/editor, go to it's options and select the file types for it to open.
It probably will have the choice to "Select All" file types.
Hope this helps,
ZILLA
